The Star Lecture

The Star Lecture – Where Science & Faith Meet

Saturday, January 13, 2018

7:00 p.m. – Christian Life Center

Rev. John Crouch, Lecturer

Born and raised in Hickory, North Carolina, John has been interested in astronomy since childhood through books and a telescope    his parents gave him. He became enamored with the story of the Star of Bethlehem when seeing the Christmas program at the Morehead Planetarium in Chapel Hill, North Carolina.

Years later, in 1980 upon reading The Birth of Christ Recalculated by Dr. Ernest Martin, he became convinced that Dr. Martin had solved the puzzle, both concerning the date and the identity of the star that appeared to the Magi.

In the years since, Rev. Crouch has presented the highlights of Dr. Martin’s ideas in lectures in some dozen states across the country, while continuing to investigate ideas related to the star as well as the relationship between science and Scripture.

He has a B.S. in Physics and an M.S. in Meteorology from North Carolina State University. While still an undergraduate at the university, he began his interest and study of the Bible and biblical languages. He later obtained an MPh. in Biostatistics from the University of North Carolina and now works as a computer programmer in SAS, the data processing and statistical software. He and his wife currently live in the Washington, D.C. area near their two grown children.

He has looked forward to returning to First United Methodist Church where he grew up in Christian fellowship.
