DISCIPLE BIBLE STUDY
First United Methodist Church offers the Disciple Bible Series of focused Bible Study Courses with each course lasting 32-34 weeks from August to May. These courses involve daily reading and a weekly group discussion session that is truly enriching. The courses available are the following:
Disciple I: a 34-week course providing a general overview of the Bible from Creation to the New Jerusalem. This course is a prerequisite for Disciple II, III and IV.
Disciple II: a 32-week course that focuses on the books of Genesis, Exodus, Luke and Acts and emphasizes becoming disciples in our own spiritual journeys.
Disciple III: a 32-week course that studies the Prophets and the letters of Paul.
Disciple IV: a 32-week course that studies the Old Testament and the Gospel of John and the books of 1,2 & 3 John, James, Jude and Revelation from the New Testament.
ADULT SUNDAY SCHOOL CLASSES
Women's Bible Class:
The Women's Bible Class was formed in December of 1999 when the
Wesley Bible class, organized in 1933, merged with
the Mary-Martha Class, with its beginnings nearly 50 years
ago. This class is comprised of learning, sharing, and caring women
who study the International Lesson Series curriculum.

Men's Bible Class:
Men of all ages are welcome in the Men's Bible Class. Its members
often arrive early to socialize and enjoy good fellowship followed
by a study of the International Lesson Series.

Adult Fellowship Class:
The Adult Fellowship Class had its beginnings near the end of World
War II and is comprised of both men and women. Adults of all ages
are welcome in this class which follows the International Lesson
Series.

Timothean Class:
The Timothean Class motto is from Paul's instructions to Timothy:
"Set the believers an example in speech and conduct, in love,
in faith and purity." (I Timothy 4:12). This class consists of men
and women who occasionally intersperses its study of the International
Lesson Series with other series which reflect members' interests.

Pairs & Spares Class:
The Pairs & Spares Classs began in 1973 as a discussion group
and continues to study a variety of materials from the Bible to
United Methodist curriculum to contemporary issues. It is comprised
of both men and women.

The Joy Outlook Class is active in social concerns and generally
studies the International Lesson series. It welcomes both men and

Genesis Class:
The Genesis Class began in 1992. “It studies both family-related and spiritual
topics as its members strive to grown in their spiritual lives.”

Trinity:
Faith, Family and Friends. Families with young children and adults join together to deepen
their spiritual faith and liturgical understanding of the Bible through
the applications of class study and real life experiences, with a deep commitment
of service to First UMC and the Hickory community.

Contemporary Issues:
This discussion group consists of men and women who are willing to think "outside
the box," dealing with differing viewpoints in an atmosphere
