United Methodist Women

The organized unit of United Methodist Women shall be a community of women whose PURPOSE is to know God and to experience freedom as whole persons through Jesus Christ; to develop a creative and supportive fellowship; and to expand concepts of mission through participation in the global ministries of the church.

There are currently five circles with a membership of 118 women.  The Leadership Team currently meets fives times annually while General Meetings are held three times per year with relevant programs presented.  Special events include a Women’s Celebration and UMW Sunday in the Spring.  Membership is open to all women in the church and new members are welcome!

The Vision is turning faith, hope and love into action on behalf of women, children and youth around the world.  Circles provide outreach and ministry to our local church and larger community in many ways.  Members read UMW children’s books to the pre-school children at our church, send cards to FUMC college kids, collect and assemble items for UMCOR Kits, collect items for Family Care Center, Safe Harbor Rescue Mission, Women’s Resource Center,  Pregnancy Care Center, Greater Hickory Cooperative Christian Ministry, Our Father’s Pavilion, Christmas stockings and teen basket items for Salvation Army, provide refreshments for Disciple Prison Ministry, visit shut-ins, tutor and act as lunch buddies at Southwest Elementary School, assist with bereavement meals, provide refreshments and fellowship for birthday parties at Brian Center Nursing Home, and correspond with retired missionaries and deaconesses at Brooks-Howell Home in Asheville.  Members also participate in Call to Prayer and Self Denial and World Thank Offering in addition to attending Spiritual Growth Retreats, District Annual Meeting, Officer Training and Mission U.
