altar-2 Both traditional services include singing led from the organ and piano, unison prayers and creed, and Scripture reading and a sermon.  The 8:30am service has a more relaxed and interactive atmosphere.  The 11:00am service has frequent special offerings from other musical ensembles including children’s choirs and youth ensembles.

The Vine is a contemporary service incorporating music from contemporary Christian artists led by our worship team, multi-sensory worship, and a relaxed atmosphere.  This is a service where your whole family can Connect with God and others, Grow in faith, and Live abundantly.

How do people dress?  People come to First Church relaxed, and in their Sunday best, and in whatever is comfortable.  Come as you are.  Really.  We hope what makes you feel most comfortable is not what you wear, but the welcome you receive.

What about my kids?  In the Bible, Jesus teaches us to welcome and bless little children.  We are committed to doing the same.  During the 11:00 worship service, we have worship bulletins just for children as well as a children’s sermon.  Following the children’s sermon children K-3rd grade are invited to participate in a worship experience tailored just for them called God’s Time.  God’s Time meets in the Community Room, one level below the Sanctuary.  Parents may pick up their children in the Community Room after worship.  Children are also welcome to stay with their parents throughout the regular worship service.

Who participates in worship?  While the pastors and staff members lead certain parts of the service, worship is something we all take part in.  Youth and children regularly participate in worship through musical offerings and leading our liturgy.  Church members also regularly lead the children’s time and liturgy.

Is the church handicap accessible? We are committed to making worship accessible to all people.  The Sanctuary and Christian Life Center have handicap accessible entrances, areas designated for wheelchairs, and nearby elevators for those who need them.  Listening Aid devices and Large Print Bulletins are also available.

_dsc0923Where should I park?  If you are a visitor, we have spaces reserved for you in our parking lot on 4th Ave NE (next to our Christian Life Center).  This is also where we recommend families with children park because of its easy access to the nursery, children’s and youth Sunday school classes.  There are handicap parking spaces along 3rd St NE (with easy access to the Sanctuary and Community Room) and on 4th Ave NE (next to our Christian Life Center).

Members who are able are encouraged to park in the SALT Block and in spaces toward the back of the 4th Ave lot in order to reserve closer spaces for visitors and others with special needs.

How often do you offer Communion?  We celebrate Holy Communion on the first Sunday of every month.  We believe when we share in this sacred meal we experience God’s grace and love in a special way.  As a United Methodist Church, we have an “open table,” because we believe Jesus is the one inviting us to this holy meal, therefore all are welcome.
