The Parable Garden is the original piece of our creation care ministry. Through the efforts of our own members, volunteers from the community, and the Master Gardener program, we provide food to the Hickory Soup Kitchen, our homebound members, and various other ministries. We have two garden sites, one located behind our main campus and the other located off Huffman Cove Rd. For more information, contact Tina Whittington (firstname.lastname@example.org) or Troy (email@example.com) or call the church office 828-322-6058.
The most recent addition to our creation care ministry involved the installation of two top bar beehives. These two hives were added to improve the production of food from our garden and also to serve as another teaching tool in the garden area. For more information, contact Jeff Hale (firstname.lastname@example.org) or Troy (email@example.com) or call the church office 828-322-6058.
The “First Ladies” were added to the Parable Garden two years ago. The eggs we receive from the hens are given to the Salvation Army as well as many of our homebound members. For more information, contact Karin Kelly (firstname.lastname@example.org) or Troy (email@example.com) or call the church office 828-322-6058.
Southwest Cub Camp
FUMC has partnered with Southwest Primary School to offer tutoring to 20 students on Wednesday afternoons. Volunteers are on hand to greet the students when they arrive. After a time of snacks and play, students receive small group help with reading, math, and homework. Pick up time is 5:30. Students and their families are invited to stay for our Wednesday night dinner. For more information, contact Mary (firstname.lastname@example.org) or call the church office 828-322-6058.
Table of Grace
A meal ministry for those members of our community who may be experiencing homelessness or who may simply need a hot meal. Come on the third Saturday of the month to help between 9:00 am-1:00 pm to cook, serve, build relationships, or clean. For more information, contact Troy (email@example.com) or call the church office 828-322-6058.
During the winter when the predicted low is expected to reach 32º or below we open the doors of our community room from 4:00 pm until 10:00 pm. We serve a meal and provide a warm place to stay until the Salvation Army emergency shelter opens at 10:00 pm. For more information, contact Troy (firstname.lastname@example.org) or call the church office 828-322-6058.
